Prioritization of Potential Native Plants from Arabian Peninsula Based on Economic and Ecological Values: Implication for Restoration

Land degradation is one of the most important environmental problems worldwide, including in Arabian Peninsula. In arid climatic conditions (i.e., high temperature, evaporation, scanty rainfall and salinity), anthropogenic factors grazing, camping, infrastructure development, etc.) are major causes land degradation. Therefore, restoration degraded lands urgently needed to achieve sustainable development goals. Moreover, countries Peninsula suffering from a lack natural freshwater resources. using halophytes could be an environmentally economically viable option overcome limited availability fresh water by substituting demand portable for irrigation as well restoring salt-affected lands. Saline soils common Peninsula, therefore, exploring ecological economic potential incorporating them projects option. this study, attempt was made document uses through survey literature prioritizing based on their use value. Out 107 species studied, 4 species, namely Arthrocnemum macrostachyum (Moric.) K.Koch., Alhagi graecorum Boiss., Bassia muricata (L.) Asch. Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. Ex Steud., were categorized priority followed 36 under moderate priority. However, when life form considered prioritization, three graecorum, Arundo donax L. australis, ranked at top list among perennials annuals.
